Day after EUS and ERCP

As the hospital fit me in yesterday, the procedure was delayed about 2 hours. While Jen and I waited in pre op, we heard a few other people going in with pancreatic issues. Jen also heard they do about 100 procedures a day in the GI outpatient area.

According to the Dr, they took 5 samples of the pancreatic lesion and then put the stent in. I asked if the stent would provide immediate relief of Jaundice and he said no, it would clear up by the end of the week. As you can imagine, my throat and belly are pretty sore and I’ve slept most of the day. Feeling a little better this afternoon and have not experienced pancreatitis yet which is a bonus.

Yesterdays procedures were done by Dr Shah and Dr Montimy, both new to us. Dr. Montimy spent time with us before the procedure and focused on the possibility of autoimmune pancreatitis and suggested 2 weeks of steroids could clear it all up. While we appreciated the feedback, we’ve seen 7 drs to this point and would guess, if it could have been this simple, someone including Wani, the pancreas pro, would have said so. They’re asking for pathology to look at it and they expect to have those result by early next week. If that’s really an option…..

They said 2-3 days on pathology and we will talk when the results are available. From our last conversation with Del Chiaro, If cancerous, we’d talk about chemo. If no cancer, we’d reschedule the whipple. Of course, that could change.

Thanks for the calls, emails and texts. We appreciate your support.

Sam
